My trusty old Swiss made Perles router has a fixed speed as it was made before variable speeds became standard so I dont use any bits larger than a chamfer bit or a biscuit cutter bit and always take small cuts until I get to the required depth.
Roll on the day when I get a DeWalt 625 for use in my router table.
