I have been using routers since the early 1970's. My first router was a Black and Decker 1/4" model and is still in use today. To date I have replaced the collet, base plate and cord. Pretty good service out of a router that is 30+ years old. I replaced the cord and base plate this year and was surprised to find that both of these items were available off the shelf at the local Dewalt repair depot. Just prior to Christmas 2004 I purchased a Hitachi M12V and am delighted with the results to date. I have it mounted in a Wolfcraft router table, but this table requires some serious rework in the area where the router mounts. The table top is made from 3/4" material and the cutout leaves an area about 1/4" thick. Add to that the adapter that mounts the router to the table at another 1/4" . I'm not comfortable running the router with the bit unseated in the collet by more than 1/4" so it has some limiting features. I plan to either rebuild or replace the top and will use a plate either available locally or I will make my own out of phenolic material.
