About what does it cost to ship, say five 5 sq. ft packs (60 lbs) to your house.

Here in Alaska, mail-order wood is prohibitive for all but the most expensive materials. For example, five 5 sq. ft. packages of 1/2" Ambrosia Maple would cost $75 from Steve Wall Lumber (Bob's example above). Shipping it by UPS ground adds $225.46 in freight. If I were to send case and convince them to ship it via untrackable USPS parcel post, the freight would drop to $107.16.

Hmm.. I wonder how big of a luggage bag one could take with them on a commercial airline. Then all I'd need is a passenger already coming from the wood supplier's location...
