All of the photos I have posted to date have been taken with one of the origonal Sony Mavica cameras. Only a 640 x 480 format which stored images directly onto a floppy disk. In the days of Windows 95/98 it was wonderful. The next cam added to my arsenal was a Mustek DV2000.(Yes, Mustek the scanner people) This 1 Megapixel wonder makes fair quality avi movies with sound for $119. It runs on 2 AA batteries, is the size of a pack of cig's and takes decent still frame photos. Both of these have been trouble free. Back in March I decided to make a serious upgrade in my abilities and purchased a Canon F2IS. This is a 5 Megapixel camera with 12X optical zoom.(24X with software) It will take good quality movies with sound. Still photos are sensational even when I print them out 13" x 19" on my Canon i9900 large format photo printer. This camera is similar in size and feel to a regular 35mm camera. There are 6 and even 8 Megapixel cameras available, some for less money than my Canon. I felt the ability to zoom and take macro's and play with settings manually was a better value for me. I am very pleased with this purchase.
Here are some helpful tips on ways to get the best results with any digital camera: First and foremost is to use the new SD high speed memory. I purchased the SanDisk 1 Gigabyte fast SD plus memory chip. The plus means you can fold the chip in half and plug it into any USB port to download your images. No cables to worry about! Next on my list is to use only Eveready lithium AA batteries. My Canon ate 2 fresh sets of 4 Duracell AA batteries taking photos at a party one evening. With the lithium batteries I have taken photos at 2 parties, a picnic, a family get together, random shots and the first set is still going strong. I do not believe in using rechargeables, at least not until they are available in lithium. It takes a lot less space to carry an extra set of the AA lithiums than it does to carry a charger and spare rechargeables. Plus no hunting for an outlet. Which ever camera you decide to go with print your photos on a Canon photo printer using premium printing supplies. You will see the difference. As an added bonus the ink is in seperate tanks for each color. No replaceing an expensive cartridge because you ran out of one color. You replace what is actually needed, and this adds up to real savings over time. Here is a sample photo taken with my Canon.
