Default Bob & Joe

Okay fellas, I'm counting on you to figure this one out for me. Cutting notches in a 2"X6" to hold a 2"X4"= notch 3 1/2 X 1 1/2 of course. Using top-of-the-line Milwaukee sabre saw with proper blade. The straight in cuts, from the edge on the 2X6 were fine, but when we went to cut the length, with the grain, the cuts were not straight up and down at the inside of the notch. No matter how hard we tried to make sure the blade stayed straight up and down, the last half of the cut (the bottom) were always bowed out or otherwise uneven. Hope you understand what I mean. Imagine 2X6 is laying on its side and we are cutting in from one edge etc.
Why? What would (apparently) deflect the blade away from the cut at the bottom of the cut?
Drivin' me n' my brother nuts!!
