New Table, And Why Well awhile back I stepped up to the big leagues and got a Hitachi M12V2. Right away it presented a couple problems. First my current table was not deep enough for this large router. Not that big of a deal, I removed the top and added 2" of MDF with pocket holes and glue. But this enclosed table(that worked great with a smaller, spin off base router)was'nt working so good as the new router required lots of under table adjustments. Now my "shop" is one 1/3 of a single car garage including a Delta CS with full cast iron top,14" bandsaw, router table, sliding miter saw, planer, etc, etc. Everything is mobile so it can be rolled out of the way or outside to work. But there is no room for a 2nd router table. So I started planning how to open up my existing table, or scrap it an make a new one. During this process I did discover that an extra hole in the plate allowed above table height adjustment. And I bent a wrench to also be used from above. Now,still in the planning(and after moving my CS several times) I realized there was some unused space between those T2 fence rails.
So here it is. The table is 2 layers of 3/4" MDF,glued and screwed together and wrapped in oak. It's attached to the rails with pre-punched steel angle from Home Depot. And finished with Howards feed & wax. One of the pics shows the bent wrench and a dowel with a knob that fits thru the hole on the front of the table to push the shaft lock w/o reaching underneath. The fence, other than the sliding faces and top of dust port,is built from cheap melamine coated shelving from HD. The fence itself just clamps to the T2 fence for depth of cut adjustments. I know it looks like there may be a tipping issue, but the saw itself weighs more than 350 pounds. If it does become a problem I will add some knock down legs that allow the saw to remain mobile. I apologize for the long post, but there may be some helpful info here. Any comments, questions,or criticisms will be appreciated.
