Default I'm the new guy!

Hello there everyone. I am currently 15 years old, with my own outdoor wood decoration business. I am currently looking into adding personalized signs with names or sayings on them. I started looking at the TurnLock Router SignCrafter System, but then noticed that nearly half of all reviews i have read mentioned something about undersized plastic parts, and weak components. After thinking a few ideas over, I want to make my own template (as it would produce more even and faster signs), possibly out of MDF (or if anybody else can suggest a material). Has anybody ever tried to do this for letter making?

Also what wood would be good for making 12x6 inch signs that will be painted for outdoors with a latex based paint? I was hoping for possibly a sheet stock as I do not have a jointer, or a planer.

My current woodworking tool shed includes: 10 inch ryobi bandsaw, 18 volt cordless ryobi jigsaw, circular saw, drill, and sander.

Can anyone suggest a good router to make these signs with and should I go for the plunge base or a fixed base?
