Ragtop

I noticed a piece of furniture on The New Yankee workshop show the other day that had a floral sort of design in it, Norm was actually showing some other detail but it caught my eye. The petals were kind of comma shaped with the bigger end cut much deeper into the work. I've been thinking about it and think I would need to build a 5 sided pyramid style fixture that had curved fence for the router base to follow as it cut each individual petal. Am I making sence here? Has anyone done anything similar to this who could offer suggestions? Thanx
