I keep a 1/4 sheet sander around for a few of reasons - such as -
- 1 being that is a 1/4 sheet sander ---
That means I don't need to buy any special paper for it -- all I have to do is tear a sheet of sandpaper in 4ths -- and bingo --- I have four sheets for the sander.
- 2 being that since it is square it can get into corners better than my ros
- 3 for me anyway -- it is easier to handle than my ros when working on narrow pieces like table or door edges or end grain.

The ROS wins though in giving a smoother sanding on large surfaces.

As for high-tech --- low-tech.
Often as not you will find me wrapping a piece or sandpaper around a foam pad and rubbing by hand.
What would you call that -- no-tech?
