Engineering type, for sure, though mostly self taught. My working life was spent repairing consumer electronics, approx. the last twenty years prior to retirement specialising in video recorders. Unlike competitors, when an expensive assembly was faulty and a replacement uneconomic, I used to develop tools and jigs to enable repair of such items as head drum assemblies, direct drive capstan motors, front load housings etc. A very good money earner were Samsung machines which had front load assemblies that used to jump out of timing because of plastic parts, and if just re-timed would soon come back again so the normal repair would include an expensive new housing, but not at my place, I turned brass parts to replace plastic ones, the repair cost being about $30.00 cheaper than my competitors and the re-worked housing would outlast the machine. It's no wonder that I enjoyed just about every day of my 50 year working life.
