Hi Birch

If all the other items work on the saw why not just call Sears service center and just pickup a new motor it's cheaper than buying a new one..

they don't last forever ..
It just maybe a set of brushs that's needs to be replace...motors are motors..so to speak...

A flash and just quick puff of smoke, it may be a short also in that case a new motor is called for...
