Hi meanmachine

" similar treatment is needed " no it's not needed,,just put on 2 or 3 coats of Johnson floor wax after you have it done...it will be slick and smooth and you can add coats as time goes on unlike varnish or any thing else...they all get scratch over time and the wax will fill the scratchs up ,,,

The top below is about 4 to 5 years years old and still in good shape.
