Default Router table/cabinet
Report Post Report This Post!

This is what I've been wanting to build for quite a while now, but just had too many other projects get in the way.. I've built 2 RTs already but want to clean things up a bit.. A cabinet style table is my answer.. I'm not using any plans, but have taken ideas from many other cabinets I've seen on RF and the web..

Using 1/2" baltic birch plywood the carcase is 33" tall x 28" wide x 16" deep.. It is all dadoed and glued together for strength.. The top will be 3/4" MDF, 32" wide x 21" deep..

Here is 2 days work..

Extremely nice job Mike, and I do mean NICE.

You need to think about getting it in the contest.

nice design Mike, it looks like it's going to be a very solid cabinet.
a decent router table is also on the top of my need to do list...

OK Bob, it's entered..

I figured there was enough time in the day to finish the cabinet, so I got busy again.. I can cut the lawn tomorrow..

When you buy a table insert for your router, get the template for it.. I have the Rousseau insert and have used the template twice now.. It makes the job a heck of a lot easier..

Put the double-sided tape on the template, and align it on the table where you want the insert to be.. Start routing the hole out..

When that is done remove the collet on the guide.. I put 2 wraps of painters tape on the small collet so I can adjust the final fit.. If your test fit is tight, remove one wrap of tape and rout it once more at the same depth.. If needed, remove the other wrap of tape.. When the insert fits snug, but not overly tight, you're done..

The pics are reverse order..

Wonderful job Mike, it turned out great and thanks for posting the pics. I will be building a mobile cabinet with a new router table using a new OP table top myself this weekend. Enjoy the new table Mike!

Very nice looking table Mike. And the guy sitting there looks like a machine repairman or a millwright EXCEPT no coffee in hand. Maybe even a Industrial Instrumentation/Pyrometer type. LOL Great job Mike.

Hmm.. No coffee? What was I thinking? It was hot out so I had a can of water instead..

I decided to put doors on it.. The left, to help with the DC getting all the crap a router generates, and the right to cover the sliding shelves..

Mike,

It just keeps getting better and better. I'd love to see what it would be if you had coffee

Looks Good Mike, nice job

I also see you have the Incra Jig setup , I dug my out of the back room and got with it and put it on my small router table, I also hate all the chips and saw dust all over the place so I made two Vac.pickups for the Incra setup you may want to take a look at them, they will both help suck up the chips and keep the table clean...
Plus they are very easy ones to make and are fun ones to make also with some scrap 1/2" MDF and a wing nut or two.
