Next came the dados for the dividers. I found that setting the stop on my miter gauge and setting it to measure from the bottom of the divider stiles worked easiest. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I then cut 2 pieces of hardboard for the panels in the lower divider. ![]() ![]() Next; the upright panel between the dividers, and the base.

I'm making the bottom panel now. No pics yet, but I'll get some up. Basically it's a copy of the bottom divider but 1/4" or so longer in length and width. That's so the box will rest on the apron edges, which will actually be holding the box up.

OK, got the bottom panel done. Slots and tongues to put it together, with 2 hardboard panels. ![]() I got all 3 panels glued and then put in the dados on the top dividers. A 3"x11"(approx) piece was placed between them which will support the top drawer runners. ![]() ![]() ![]() I then took a cherry board, cut it into 2 foot lenghts, and resawed it in half. I now have several book-matched panels for the sides, top, and drawer fronts. ![]()

Thanks Ed. All the pics are for Harry. ![]() I've been taking a lot of time with measuring, marking, and cutting on the wrong side of the line. Actually, that's only happened a couple of times.Bob Rosendahl once said, "The more you measure, the more mistakes you make", but careful measuring and cutting are key to close fits. I cheapened up the back panel a bit. Instead of using cherry I simply filled them with a high grade of hardboard. It's not going to be a visible side, so I figured OK, I'll go with it. It's now glued up and squared. ![]() I'm taking some measurements on the drawer openings. As another deviation from the plans, I'm going to make 2 small drawers on the top set and 1 double depth drawer for the other side. I have that situation on another tool box and like it that way. They will be made of poplar with a hardboard floor. Cherry will be the fronts. I decided to make the entire chest out of cherry instead of using maple or walnut. Tomorrow is another day and I have to get another cherry board. I ran out of it. Armstrong mill works, here I come, again.

Took the day off to do a few other things around the house. In the afternoon I met my sister and a couple friends and we flew our kites. Another hobby of mine. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tomorrow, back to the tool chest

And I thought the windy city was Chicago! So when we tell you Mike, to go fly a kite, you will literally?

My bosses knew I had kites in my car so they would never tell me to go fly one, until the day I retired. I was given a kite then. ![]()
