Yep, you're right Bj. I was going by the directions and did it like that. The author did it all with a table saw. At least I cut down on all that and routed most of it. Just using what I have on hand.

Got back to it today. I took a couple pieces of the resawn wood and made the panels for the sides.
To make a quick and simple relief in them I used a bowl cutting bit. Turned out pretty good I think.

I needed some more wood, so I went shopping. Got a great price of $4 bdft. Not bad for cherry.

I've gotta say, Mike, you're really making good use of your retirement time. Someday, when I grow up, I wanna be just like you. Keep up the great work.

Well Neal. It's either work in the garage, or play cards with the wife.

Got the sides glued together. Put the sides, back, and dividers together and checked it all for square. Right freakin on. I was glad for that.

I then began working on the top. I was going to have 2 panels with book-matched panels, but I figured I would have a problem with the 3/8" thick panels trying to glue the edges together. I opted for 4 panels with 2 sets of book-matches. It was made the same way I did all the other panels. 1 1/4" X 3/4" rails and stiles. Slotted with tenons.

There will be molding put around the edges.

Now I started on the drawers. I had made a jig to create locking rabbet joints. It uses a 1/4" bit, 1/4" high, and either flush or 1/4" from the fence depending on what operation you are doing. Once it it set up, it does a great job. This could also be done with my Incra fence, but I had made it, so I used it. I made them out of poplar.

The drawers are 3/8" shy of the front edge as I'll be covering them with more cherry book-matches.

Next, the drawer bottoms and slides.

Fantastic work Mike. That is going to be a beauty. Can't wait to see it with the drawer fronts finished. What is the finish going to be?

Going to paint it white.

I was thinking of just coating it with tung oil. I like the way it brings out the wood grain without giving it a shine.
