I have found this unit for sale online, for $160 + $22 s&h.

I have one concern, however. In the description of the unit is the following:

"Factory Serviced, Factory Perfect ReconditionedTool"

The price seems too good to turn down, but I am concerned that this unit may have problems.

It does also indicate that there is a 30 day warranty, as well as a 1 year manufacturers warranty.

Does anyone here have experience purchasing reconditioned power tools?

Hi,

I have purchased such tools and would again. I have read about a couple of "bosch" problems which at least for a while provided a good number of returns and thus easy to repair and resell routers (switch issue and corrosion issue).

When tools are returned most places return them to the manufacture for credit, in this case bosch who decides what and if any repairs need to be made.... Some tools are returned with no problems at all but they too are looked at. Since they can not be sold as "new" they are sold as you indicated.

I also have to say I have had one tool, a die grinder that "exploded" when I turned it on. Let me explain by what I mean by "exploded".... It had a plastic fan inside and when I first turned it on the fan went to pieces...... I switched it off shook out a lot of little plastic bits and returned it to the outlet center and got another one which has seen a lot of years of use. I guess what I'm saying is they are not 100% so you situation my prove different then mine.

I have read about these issues as well, and I am comfortable buying a Bosch, since it appears that they have addressed the issues and newer models no longer have the problems.

That having been said, even if there are a few minor issues with the switch and corrosion, The $70 some odd bucks I will save will go a long way towards fixing them if for some reason Bosch will not. Since this is my first router, and hopefully will not be my last, I think I will go ahead and pull the trigger!

Buy it. It's a great deal. I got my 1617EVSPK for $159 and it's a reconditioned tool with full Bosch factory warranty. I love mine. The kit even came with a hard case.

OK,

Today was the day. The auction I was thinking about bidding on ended at 10 p.m., so I went to the local Lowes at lunch today to put my hands on the Bosch 1617 just to be sure that it was what I wanted.

While there, I noticed that they had one more promotion kit (1617EVSPKE)! At $219, This kit included the accessory kit worth $100. I figured that even with when compared to the online auction, This kit was a better deal by about $50, so I snatched it up!

So it is official. I have my router, and am ready to begin work. That is, once I pick up some bits. I think my first project will be some saw horses, then a router table, and then on to some of the kids chairs that reible posted in the Show 'N Tell section. My wife thinks they would bring a pretty penny at a craft sale!

Congrats on getting your router. It's a nice one! I'm sure you'll be with happy with it. If you feel comfortable on taking out the emtag on the cord, go for it! The emtag won't be needed anymore! Have fun!
