Default Box Joints

I was doing a bit of reading over the weekend about box joints... It is one of my personal favorites so I like to use it in box/drawer construction. Now what I didn't know was that a lot of commercial places do the glue process after the joints are together. They have a special mix of glue they use that from what I understood was very much like the "chair doctor".

So my question to anyone is.... have they ever done it this way and if so how did it work for you?????

Hi Ed
I have not but what works for me is Super Glue and Super Glue Spray Accelerator.
But you must be quick, it sets in 10 sec. to 15 sec,
Put a drop or two on one part and spray the other part and when you put them as one that's it ,no glue mess just a clean joint.

This method is a lot different then super glue...

The products like chair doctor are a low viscosity low surface tension product that are made to repair chairs rungs by getting into the joint and then swelling the wood and bonding. To do this it soaks into the end grain like you have with box joints... it swells the wood from the entry point in which would form a wedge shape on the exposed box joint... it then keeps the wood in the swollen state and cures.

What this would mean is that you can assemble the drawers/boxes and square them up... no rush as no glue is being used at this point. You are doing a "dry fit". When you have everything the way you want it you then use the "glue" to the outside of the joints and let it dry.

I guess I'll get a bottle and give it a try... sure sounds like it will work.
