| Registered User Supreme Forum King | Within the next month or so, I intend to start a simple project. A holder/display for collection plates. My problem is, the decision is, on what type of wood to make it out of. I'm leaning more towards cedar, (aeromatic), with a clear acrylic, or a oak or walnut with a light stain. I'm the type of person that enjoys the look of wood's natural color. Any and all thoughts much appreciated. ![]()

| Registered User Supreme Forum King | Thank you Bob. This project however, is for my mother. She's into collecting plates. Of all her collections, only one set came with a display/holder. She wants me to make a few for her.

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | Hi Ken The display/holder is not a very stable plate holder they get knocked off the table easy, just ask my boss, the wall rack with a slot for the plate will keep the plates safe, and with a key hole slot on the sides they are easy to hang on the wall .. plus a good spot to hang cups under the shelf .If you want to see a snapshot or two just ask and I will post one. ![]() Just for kicks here's some snapshots ![]() see below ▼ SORRY about the snapshots ,( not sharp and clean) the boss has the good cam. with her on a Caribbean cruise and to the Sea islands. Bj ![]()

| Registered User Supreme Forum King | Thanks Bob, These will be wall mounted. The first two snap shots you have, the lower holder is what she's wanting. In fact, looks very similar to the one she has now. It's only she wants a few more. I've never truly been to fond of "dark" wood color but, it may be just the right contrast needed for her plate collection. I'll be ordering the key slot bit real soon, just real life has to settle/slow down some first. Quick question for ya, should I make that slot go from end to end or should I just put in individual slots for the plate(s) themselves? Meaning, 5-6 plates per rack, 5-6 slots.

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | Hi Ken I put in one long slot from end to end and stop short of the ends about 2 1/2" from ea.end. And from 3/4" to 1 1/4" from the back edge. And about 5/16" to 3/8" deep on the slots. You just don't know for sure what size plates she will put on it. ![]() Some of them are 2 1/2' deep,(platters) I also use blind siding dovetails to hold the sheft(s) in place in that way the boss can take them down or put them up easy unlike the ones that are glued up with brass hanger clips. Round Nose Bits, #6444 and the #6445 or Core Box Bits 3/8" or 1/2" http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/shops...nd_Nose_Anchor Just a note about (key slot bit ) the best one I have found is the one at HomeDepot in the clear plastic box and is painted yellow. if I recall it was about 12.oo bucks.I have cooked about 6 of them making T-SLots in MDF. takes a pass or two to make the T-slots.Bj ![]()

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | Hi Ken Below you will see a link to the one I use, they work great for many router jobs like T-Slots. It will put in a 1/2" wide hole and a 5/16" wide slot I could not get the link to work, but see the snapshot below. ▼ Unplug ELVIS huuummmm I don't think so, that's like if I unplug the phone and when it rings ELVIS starts to sing a song and when the clock hits the hour I get a little Elvis tune in back ground and If I use her car and change the radio off the Elvis station I'm in deep #$@#$@... if I forget to put it back on channel 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 as you can she like Elvis and I do also but not all the time.Bj ![]()
