How about sharing pictures of your shop?

Hi,

While checking what was "new" I noticed someone had posted a description of their shop: ".... have a workshop in a pentagon shaped log barn." This sounds so interesting that it made me think that a lot of you out there must have some interesting shop buildings/shops that you might care to share. My own is too much of a mess for anyone to see and it is only a part of an attached garage (no car will ever see the inside while I live here).

If you have pictures they need to be reduced to fit the 39.1K limit, if you need help doing that I can help you out either with online instructions or if not to many people want it done I will creat a temp e-mail address and do the conversions for you.

We won't even discuss what the inside of mine looks like, but here's what I started with this spring. Springtime

Pretty plain, no fancy shape or nothing, but it does give me a 16 X 20 workspace with a 16 X 10 storage room in the back.

I put my workshop photo in the Introductions section since I was asked there what my shop looked like. (And I didn't see this thread first)
Now a question... what type of lighting do you guys find is the best for woodworking. My shop is kinda dark and I need to put in some lighting, I'm just not sure what to go with?

I REALLY like the idea of a barn shop and this building looks great, you are so lucky!!!!

I see a lot of work going on putting together woodshops, makes me wish I was setting one up....... Hey maybe in another couple of years I will be.

I can't say my lighting is great but I have 8 overhead 4 foot 2 bulb 40 W. florescent fixtures in what amounts to a half a two-car garage. In terms of watts that seems like a lot but I just took out 6 other fixtures of that same type that had a noise problem (60 cycle hum). I have not replaced them yet and I notice it is a lot darker when I have to work with the garage door closed now. I want to get lamps that have electronic ballasts and are quiet. By the way florescent lamps don't work in real cold weather in case your shop is not heated all the time.......

The other major factor is getting everything in light colors (white is good), mine is unpainted drywall, another project I need to do sometime is paint it white. One of the others that shared his shop discussed this idea as well.

I should also say I have some clamp on lights that I use as needed. I don't know if can ever have to much light in a shop..... well maybe is you start getting sunburn....
