Default Spiral Bits/splinters

Will a spiral bit splinter a piece if 1/4" poplar? My darling spousal unit has requested that I make her some purse handles. There are two bits I think I need for this. But if the spiral will work so much the better.
1. Flush Trim Bit top Bearing with 1/2" cutter.
2. Straight bit two flute, 3/16" diameter cutter/ 1/2" depth.

I will enclose photos of what she wants..when I can.

Hi George,
I think you'll find that the spiral bit will be your best choice to use.

Hi George

Just my 2 cents

I would not use poplar for the purse handles, I would use something like soft maple if you want the look of light wood...poplar likes to splinter not to talk about the green look plus ( upgrain cut thing )

I work with poplar a lot. I find best router bit is top bearing shear angle flush trim.
Freud or CMT if you have the cash.

Thanks for all the help. Where I live about the only 1/4" wood I can get is pine, red oak, and poplar. Those are my only choices without driving to hell and back. Am thinking on trying the oak next. The top bearing shear angle flush trim bit looks promising but the length is wat to long..I have tried to 1/2 top bearing 3/4"..The sprial bit will be my next experiment. Thanks again.

Hi George Cole

Take a peek at the web site below..

He can put what you need on your door without driving to hell and back, not to talk about the time and gas you will save...
