| Registered User Forum Fanatic | I have a Makita 3612C router which has a 1/2 in collet and requires adapters for 1/4 in shaft bits. I noticed that the MLCS collet adapters are longer than the Makita collet. Should I insert the collet adapter so that the "top" (the end into which the bit is inserted) is even with the collet top, or should I insert the adapter so the "bottom" is even with the collet bottom?

| Registered User Supreme Forum King | Hi mftha, I have 2 of the same routers. I love the Makita's btw. I usually make sure that I put the 1/4" adapter in atleast 3/4 of it's length and then the same for the bit. Sometimes I'm a little deeper with both but, NO LESS than 3/4 of the length of both the collet and the bit shank. I've never had any issues with this method. Hope this helps. ![]()
