I've got the 2HP Plunge router model like the one you listed. It's made by Ryobi. Cheap Collet (split shaft) is it's biggest downfall. Bosch is better.

Hi: The Sears store near me sell other make routers. They sell DeWalt and also Porter Cable. If possible try the DeWalt 625 router, or the Porter Cable 7539.
These are BIG routers, over 3 HP, electronic start and speed control. The raised panels should be cut at about 10000 or 12000 Rpm. The stilesa and rails for the doors can be cut at a faster rate.

I've had that Craftsman model for a couple of years. It's a horse. It works well in my Craftsman table. If you can get it for that price, I wouldn't hesitate.

I honestly feel you are better off with a router like the 26620 or Bosch 1617EVS than with one of the bigger routers for your primary routing jobs. These are much easier to handle and adjust. I have a PC 7518 reserved for heavy table work. I also have an older Craftsman commercial router set up in a table just for round over operations, an older Bosch set up for dovetail's with the origional PC jig, a Craftsman 1-1/2 HP set up on a Biskit joiner, a Ryobi trim router and a Rockwell pin router that i am waiting for warmer weather to play with. All of that being said I prefer the features and function of my Bosch 1617's over the rest, and if I could only have one that would be it.

Hi, Ed; I haven't been on the forum for quite a while. I bought a new computer and I killed everything instead of transferring data. I've had a 1617 for a few years and haven't had any trouble at all. My plunge is smooth and easy. You might be right. If it was a demo, someone may have dropped it. Demos tend to take a lot of abuse by being handled by people who don't even know what it's for. I recently bought a Freud fixed base for a small router table, I think I like it better than any of them, but i'm not sure yet. I'll let everyone know after a couple of kitchens.
