Hi Vagabon1, welcome to our corner of the 'net. Nice to see another Canuck here. Where in the Great White North are you from?

Just browse one or two router bit on line sites and you'll be spoilt for choice. There is such a wide variety available because we all have our own ideas as to what is aesthetically pleasing, one man's meat is another man's poison. Happy hunting (and routing).

The best advice that I can give a newcomer to routing is, learn to use the router mounted, this can be as simple as a board held in a vice, with the router firmly attached and a simple fence held with clamps, and when he/she feels competant and confident in it's use and is familiar with all aspects of safety, THEN, and only then proceed to learn how to use the router hand held. This is MY opinion, and may or may not coincide with that of the forum management, but is based on a lifetime of woodworking.

That's OK, sometimes I feel sorry for myself living here too...

As for your sign edge, as others have suggested, pick a bit, preferably with a pilot bearing, and cut your edge. The advantage of the pilot bearing is that you can have the bearing ride along the bottom edge of the sign, while the cutter shapes the top edge.

Good luck
Brian

Don't worry about it.. I didn't take offence at it.

Good luck with your sign, and remember to take lots of pics.
