About 60* here in Atlanta at the moment and climbing to around 65 or so according to those that never get it right

Well, I reserved today to get out in the shop and try to finish my new work bench that I have been working on for about 3 weeks now. All I like are the vices and have had to stop to give thought on how I wanted to mount them.

I selected a design that required me to dado or mortice out (hey... I'm a newbie so shoot me if I used the wrong term) an area about the size of a 4X6 card and 1/2 deep on a 2X8 I am using for my vice blocks.

Ah... what better tool for the job than my Dewalt 618PK which has not been removed from it's router table since I got it 6 months ago. Let's see... where did I put the plunge base? Ah... there it is. After studying the whole process for about 15 minutes and getting the plunger assembly all together and taking my 1/2 brass bar to be sure the bit would stop at the proper depth not plunge thru all the way thru the floor below, I proceed to clamp my wood to a little workmate outside in the sunshine and got ready to do something I never have done before...... freehand routing and no table or guide fence, just lunge and plunge

Okay.... I'm somewhat of a newbie but not my first day of woodworking either.... but I gotta tell ya.... This little task was a thrill. Taking a 1/2 staright dado bit and wallering out a 4X6 area with a plunge router was absolute heaven. Getting it right the first time was even better than a penthouse in heaven. I had a blast..... (the reason for the "WAHOO") I'll be using my router a lot more as my shop progresses.... that is a really likable tool and can do so much.

Guess I've been couped up inside the house too long and it don't take much to excite me at the moment ,but I just had to share.

Glad you are out and enjoying your router. It's almost like spring here as well, 39 degrees today so I will be out working in my garage. My son and I are going to tackle building some doll sized rocking chairs for my aunt. Enjoy!

A double Wahoo for you my friend. Nothing better than a day with the son. Mine done went and growed up and has his own life, but we still go fishing some and I really treasure a day with him.
