Thanks Pete and Dave.
Please excuse my poor English.
I'm re-activating my workshop now I have more time.
I'd like to make drawers and hesitate about different solutions (comb-jigs ? with what bits ? dovetails or flat "teeth" ?).
I'd prefer diy devices, as much for money reasons as proudness (vanity ?) ...

Got it !

Here is my first finger joint :
It's a scrap of 5 mm (a bit thinner than 3/16") plywood.
The jig is a shameless copy :
A rectangle of 5mm PW bears a 5mm*5mm pvc "rail" which whas glued PVC glue) to the right (hemm ?) distance.
The rectangle is directly screwed on the wood router table.
I suppose ol'timers smiling or even laughing, but ... I do love it.
Its 10 mm brother is finished but glue is still wet ...

Amitié.
Jaypi.

Welcome to the Forums, Jaypi!! Glad you joined us. You did good on the finger joint jigs. I believe that if it works for me, I don't care who laughs.

Bonjour Jaypi

Felicitations sur les joints de doigts. Oui, il y a plusieurs qui parle français ici. S'il y a quelque choses que vous ne comprenez pas en anglais demandez le en français. Quelqu'un vous aidera.

when you try we try and like that we understand each other - quand vous essayez nous essayons et comme ça nous comprennons.

the "flat teeth" are finger joints - les "dents plat" c'est <<joints de doigts.>> (je ne souveiens pas comment l'epeller!)

read this...

BTW (by the way) Bush Bee Tools will ship from Ottawa and they do have French speaking staff there. They also have a catalogue online if you want.

Also, take a look at this article...

It looks like fun to build.

Hope this helps.

Bonjour George, bonjour Allthunbs,
Thanks for interest and advices !

George, I did fill my details ! My true first name is Jean-Pierre, but for long years in radio ham (F5JPC), I have been JayPi ...

Allthumbs, finger joint is "assemblage à queues droites" (dovetails are "queues d'arondes"). I will study your links, thank you.

Alas, I glued the rail guides on the wrong side (left of the bit instead of right)!
Alas, 5 mm PVC is 4.7 mm ! I understand why it was so tight !
Bye bye PVC, good morning square steel tubes, let's start again from zero : fortunately it won't be very hard , now I know it will work ...

See you soon !

Default imperial and metric !
Report Post Report This Post!

Hi all,

Those questions of thickness are of utmost importance !
French stores sell as so-called 5 mm PVC what is, in fact 3"/16 (4.76 mm !) : so if PVC is improper for my metric project (metric bits, metric wood), it must be useful for imperial ones !
I achieved correct adjustments for my 5 mm and 10 mm jigs, but not sure I realize the other sizes this way because I intend to start a new router table from scratch ... probably with screw adjusted fence ...
A weakness of my present idea is that when exact sizes and space are set up, cutting a (n + 1)th mortise, you need to slide the Nth on the finger rail : as it is tightly adjusted, the sliding is very hard.
Next time, I'll use sleds and the fingers fixed on the sleds ...
