Hello All, I found your site on web while searching for tool reviews. Am setting up a garage & basement shop. I have an old Black and Decker 3/4 hp, but am looking to improve to something new. Am looking for a router with more power, that can be mounted on a table, or handheld with a plunge option. Because it gets cold here in Colorado I will be using it in the basement when the snow flies so dust control is very important. I just looked at a 2 1/4 hp Porter & Cables at Lowes for around $259, and with a $50 off coupon I could get it for around $209. (It is also made in the good old USA which is important to me!) I am really excited about FINALLY being able to set up shop, and have a lot of projects: Garage Cabinets, Jewelry Table for the wife, Book Shelves for the den, Trim work throughout the house, Wood floors for the stairs, and Upstairs. You get the picture I am sure! Any recommendations on a router, table, and book for technique and projects? Many thanks! PolarNav

Welcome Eric. I've used "Router magic" & "woodworking with the router" to help get me started. Building a router table/cbinet now. The enclosed cabinet type with DC for in a basement may be a consideration (allthough many strong views out there). ( smile bj )THis forum has helped me more than the books but without the book I wouldn't have known what ?s to ask. http://www.amazon.com/Woodworking-Ro...ref=pd_sim_b_5 BJ (above post) & others have many differnt routers so I'd lean their direction on router type vs $. As with almost any ? you have about routing.

You asked at the right time. Right now Oak Park has the Router Workshop table with the Vac-u-plate system on sale, and if you enter this code: 612805 you will save an extra 10% which means you get the table for $199! They are also including the first season DVD of the show and a great book to help you get started at no charge. This is a super deal and only good until Friday November 28th. The under the table dust collection works great, no hoses to get in the way of moving your wood. Decide on your router before calling so they can send the right mounting plate. Here is a photo of my Bosch 1617 set up in the table.

Amazon has the CMT setup on sale again. 284.00 including shipping for everything! Just a few days ago it was 789.00! You can not go wrong with this setup. I paid full price and am happy with the setup. For the table, the plate, the insert rings , the cabinet and CMT's pivoting fence and a bunch of extra accessories you can not go wrong. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance They keep jumping the price up and down. The discount of 50.00 shows up when you put the item in the cart. Last edited by nickao65; 11-26-2008 at 11:57 PM.
