Default Table router

Hello Everyone,

I'm a Novice wood worker. I have a Hitachi 2.25 HP combo router and I'm looking for a new router for a table that I just built. Anyone like the Craftsman 17543? Any suggestions?

I like the Milwaukee 5625 for a table

You already have a 2.25 hp why not get a 3hp as your second router?

Welcome to the forum. Like Nick says if it is a dedicated router for your table go with the 3 or 3+ router. I know when I dedicate a router to the table, that will be a while, I will go with a 3+ unit. I rally cannot recommend something I've never had, but others will be along that can.

Ok, I'll bite. I've got the >3 HP in-table. The measure of a "router" is it's ability to be used. The >3HP variable speed, plunge monsters are the only ones that can take the >3" bits that you would use for raised panel doors for kitchen cabinets or furniture.

Please note, even the big routers may need to be modified for some bits. Make sure the router base can be modified to take bits of this size. Don't let someone convince you that >3" bits should be mounted outside the router base.

I am with you allthumbs, but guys always tell me "oh I used a 2.25hp unit and it worked fine for the raised panels". I am sure they did, still not the right tool for the job, IMHO.

I wonder how many passes they had to do to make that work.

Hi Nick: If someone is going to use a lightweight to do a heavyweight job, you figure smoke is going to get into the equation. I haven't smoked in more than a year ;-)
