I just bought my first router, Bosch 1617evspk. I'm a pretty good mechanic but have never used a router. My question is, is the BOSCH RA1181 Router Table a worth while addition? I'm not too concerned about costs, just usefulness and quality.

First off, welcome to the forum. There is much knowledge availble here. Welcome and enjoy.

Secondly, I do not know much about the Bosch table, but I to have the 1617evspk and love it. If you read thru the forum, there is many great threads about making your own table. This can be done very efficiently and it also makes the table to more of you suiting. If a person wanted to purchase a table, there are many different sizes and features available. For me, I did tons of homework to find what I did and did not want in a table (features, size, plates, etc). I personally decided to purchase my table and mounting plate thru Woodpeckers, but there is many more available. Such as oak park, woodhaven, eagle america, rockler, woodcraft, peachtree, and many others. It's all about what you want. The features you want. And the flexability to do what you want. I am not saying that one is better than the other, but a router table has to work for you, not vise versa. I will be building my next table, a smaller bench mounted one for smaller get it done type of projects.

Thank you so much for your input. I guess what I'll do is buy the Bosch. Once I get into using a router I'll better know what I might want in a table...which I might then build !!!!

Welcome aboard!

I'm not familiar with the Bosch router... but, if their quality in it is anything like the 1590 EVSK, you will not be disappointed. They make top quality stuff!

I haven't even seen their router table... again, I'd say it's a good gamble, if you want to call it that.

Welcome Rick. The Bosch 1617 is the router I use most. It is usually top rated, very rugged and dependable. You will be happy with your choice. I strongly urge you to build your own table. There are many excellent plans available and you can combine and incorporate the features you want when you build. A simple table gets you routing. You are better to save your money for bits, trust me... you will need it!
