Hello everyone, I am from India and quite a DIY person around the house. I am planning to buy myself a 'first' router and have zeroed down on the Bosch PR20EVSNK
Which is a complete kit by it self. I will be ordering the same from Amazon (US) as they ship to India. My only concern is the power usage of the product. Would it be 110v or would it be universal as 110-240v and I would only have to worry about the plug type. Any advise would be appreciated. The complete model name is as follows:
Bosch PR20EVSNK Colt Installers Kit 5.7 Amp 1 Hp Fixed-Base Variable-Speed Router with 4 Assorted Bases and Edge Guide.
I am delighted to be on the forum.
Thanks

Welcome to the router forum.

Thank you for joining us, Aarish.

I would check before I ordered the router from Amazon. Large electric motors are not usually "universal as 110-240v", as are AC adaptors used for battery chargers, laptops etc.

Aarish; North American power tools are normally 110V unless they state otherwise.
A 220V machine would normally be something bigger, like a tablesaw or compressor. If they are dual voltage, the advertisement will say so. Changing the motor leads and plug would be up to the purchaser. Portable electric hand tools are never supplied as 220V as there's no place to plug them into, (unless you custom wire the cct. in the bldg.) If you really need 220V power tools, order them from the UK.

A 1400 Watt tool like that Bosch router would be popping breakers over here in N. America, with our 15Amp/110V ccts.
Cheers,

Hi Aarish,

I am also from India and I wouldn't suggest you ordering from Amazon (US). It would be better if you ordered the same here and if it isn't available then I suggest you to check out a substitute for the same. The reason behind this is that if the kit that you are ordering malfunctions then obtaining services, later on, will be a heck of a pain here. In my experience, most of them will tell you to get it fixed in the country of purchase even if it is covered under international warranty. This is because if it this particular series or model hasn't been introduced here in India then the support team won't be able to provide spare parts or tools for it.

Hope this helps :)
