Post Mr Chips

Hi everyone. I am a new member in here and have been looking around. WOW what a site. I am a retired machinest and decided to continue my learning with wood working. I enjoy making things with my hands. I am lookinv for a router table insert like I saw on router workshop. I have a table that I think I can convert but need the insert. I have a plunge router and a few bits now, but I realize that this will only be a start. I also have a table saw, band saw, jig saw, and several hand tool now. I would like to be able to make small furnature pieces and ornements for the lawn and garden. I would like to hear from anyone who would like to contact me.

Welcome to the forums Mr Chips. I know what you mean when you say= continue my learning with wood.working. Working with metal day after day- for 30+ yrs starts to get old. It's nice to work with wood for a change. No .0005 tolerances in woodworking.
Sounds like you have a good start on a shop with the tools you have. Enjoy the forums and don't be a stranger.

Mr Chips, welcome to the forums. The most difficult thing for you to adjust to when switching from working with metal to working with wood is the fact that wood moves. There are many brands of mounting plates out there, but the Oak Park Vac-u-plate is the only one that puts your dust collection hose under the table top and out of your way. Remember that fine wood dust is a carcinogen and work safely.

I don't know, Mike, I think the ability to weld something I cut too short back together and grind it out so it looks like I never made a mistake is a pretty big adjustment to make switching between woodworking and metalworking!

Welcome Mr. Chips, hope that you learn much and share much as well!
