Just put together a tabletop router/table combo. Can anyone tell me what is a good height from the floor to set on a table?

Hello! The router workshop router table that Bob and Rick uses is 16 inches high. They have that sitting on a cabinet that is 25 inches high. That puts the top at about 41" from the floor. When I built mine I made it at 42 1/2 cause I am fairly tall. Use the 40 - 41 inches as a benchmark (no pun intended ) and see how comfortable that is and adjust from there. Hopefully you have something you can use to test that. Your kitchen counter top will most likely be around 36 inches from the floor if that helps.

Welcome to the router forums.

Another good rule of thumb is to measure from your elbow to the floor and subtract 2 inches. This is a good working height and will be how you stand while at the router table.

Is thumbis plural Bob? That means you have to first pull your thumb out of your @... oh never mind

Corey, I think thumbis, is Latin for two thumbs on your left hand.

Welcome to the Router Forums rbarndt. As for table height, are you 6'4" or 5'6" tall? It all depends on your height. The elbow -2" sounds about right to me.

Cool New Hobby

Well, thanks to all you guys for the suggestions! Just to compilcate things even more , I'm a 'lefty' so I'll need to adjust to the feed direction, too! Oh well, I'll keep watching my thumbises to make sure I have two each time I do a piece. Just to let you all know, I make wooden lanterns for the Old Bedford Village Historical Society in Bedford, PA. We currently are needing about 150 to put candles in as a light source and distribute them around the old cottages and houses in a reconstructed 'village' circa 1725. It's a lot of fun! Thanks again!

Sounds interesting rbarndt. Can you post a picture of these lanterns you are making? I would like to see what they look like.
