| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | Hi Leanne That's like buying a 18 wheeler to pickup some food at the store ![]() It will do the job fine but it will take you a bit to get the hang of it, like any new tool you buy,,,, I would suggest the you turn the speed down all the way at 1st. this will help alot ....most bits don't need to be run at high speed to do a good job and you have all the power you will need... The sound of the router running at low speed will help and not be so scary ![]() Bj ![]() Quote:

My advice would be for you to enroll for some lessons on how to use the router, hopefully there will be a school or club in your district that will be able to assist you. I had many ladies join my school when I was conducting a school of routing, they were in the same position as you are. They left with more confidence in both the router table and in the handheld position. You will get more from your large router in the years to come. There are other methods of using the router (Router Table) and I suppose you will be encouraged by others to place the router in the table for safety sake. I have taught Blind people how to use the router in the plunge mode with the aid of template guides and it is very safe, but I suggest you get some tuition on the use of the router in this mode. There is no doubt the router placed in the router table is the most popular method used as you will see from the postings on this forum and I would say on any other forum that you may wish to view. Seek personal advice and guidance on the use of the router. I say personal as you will be able to be guided in the art of using the router. Videos and books do not tell you when you are doing something wrong. Tom | |

| Registered User Jr. Member | Welcome Leanne! I have never come to these forums and not learned something. I start my day going through the different posts while drinking my morning coffee, it's better than the newspaper!! I want to thank challagan for the links on the free podcasts(key word 'free' my favorite price). Now I can throw away my tv too, LOL |
