Default New user intro

Hi there. My name is Jonathan and I'm a daguerreotype photographer living in Durham, NC. I play around with various woodworking tools to make the devices necessary to further my photographic craft and I suppose I just generally like making sawdust.

I have across-the-board cheap crappy tools but I'm slowly buying up the decent stuff as I develop time, money, and expertise (not to be confused with desire).

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan

Had to look that one up

"daguerreotype"

An obsolete photographic process, invented in 1839, in which a picture made on a silver surface sensitized with iodine was developed by exposure to mercury vapor

Welcome to the best woodworking forum on the Net

Welcome to the router forums. We have all been there with low cost tools. Some work out for a long time .. others don't. Glad to have you here!

Thanks for the welcome, folks. bobj3... I forget that I have to explain that. Thanks for sharing with the others! haha I do, however, take exception to the term "obsolete"!

Hello Jonathan and welcome to the forums. Bj didn't have to look that up (daguerreotype). He can remember when it was new. LOL

Welcome Johnathan, I'm glad that Bj. gave that explanation as I didn't have a clue, but one thing I do know is that digital photography is FAR SAFER than anything to do with MERCURY!

Oh, I have nothing against digital whatsoever. I'm an avid user of my Canon dSLR. It's kind of like how I have nothing against a router even though you can do the same stuff with simpler tools and a LOT of patience.

I agree with you about the Hg. It's nasty stuff but the Iodine and Bromine are no walk in the park either.

Jonathan
