Question Helo to all sawdustmakers

Good Morning,

I just joined yesterday, 10/26/07, and want to introduce myself.

My name is Spencer and I live in the Chicagoland area. I have been doing woodworking off and on for a few years and really enjoy it. I am a novice but aren't we all?

I am loking for a router to place in my router table that I purchased from Oak Park Enterprises. I read in Fine Woodworking that the Triton MOFOO1KC is the highest rated router for use as an attachment to the table.

I am interested in the comments of others regarding the routers you use. I would like to hear some recommendations before I go out and make the purchase.

Welcome to the forum Spencer. It may be beneficial to let us know what kind of work you will be doing on the router table in order for us to reply properly to your question. Personally I have a DW 618 in my OP table and am very satisified with it, but then again, I do smaller projects and don't neeed the extra HP. I have it rigged for above the table bit changes and can drop the router out in 5 seconds to pop in my plunge base for hand routing. I am very satisified with my set up, but then again every one has their favorite way of doing things and that is what makes the hobby so enjoyable.

Welcome to the forums Spencer. I love my Oak Park table. The triton is a great router from what I hear. Enjoy it....

G'day, Spence. I've got a Triton TR0001 beast (probably the downunder version of the one you're quoting) and it eats anything I want to throw at it in the table. You might want to consider something lighter for hand work though. Just my two penn'orth.

Spencer, like Geordie, I too use a Trtiton TR001 in the table and consider it to be one of a kind. Cutter change is from ABOVE the table and only one spanner needed, it has enough power for any task asked of it and removal of the spring is but a moments work.
Is it perfect? In my humble opinion NO, as a plunge router I would give it a wide berth and YES, I do have other very good routers and yes I do a great deal of routing but the above is of course MY considered opinion.
