I am a new member, have several years of woodworking experience but am not a professional. Am seeking info on dovetail jigs, better ones on the market, what all would be needed i. e. bit shank sizes, guide bearings, different templetes etc. Any info would be appreciated.

Hi dreed

It comes down to how much you want or can spend for one...

Starts at the low end of about 40.oo bucks up to 350.oo bucks, they all do the same job but the higher ends ones do come with more stuff/add on's

Some of the jigs come with the bit and the guides but some don't...

It's like buying a router ,once you have the router you must buy bits for it...

Hi dreed, welcome to the router forums.

I gotta agree with Bob, it depends on how much you're willing to spend. I favor the Leigh DT simply because, they're adjustable.

Welcome Dreed to the forums. I can't help you on dove tail jigs other than router table top models. Good luck!

The best advice about dovetail jigs is to learn and use other joints for at least a year before buying one. Dovetails joints are very nice but... other joints work well and are plenty strong. Once you have mastered building other joints you stand a better chance of getting good results with dovetails. This way you will know for sure you want and need dovetail joints and will spend the right amount of money for your situation.
