Default Hello from Northern Virginia

Just a note to say hello to all. I am new to woodworking but I have be doing home improvement (honey due list) for a little while. I would like to be able to make nice shelves, cabinets, furniture, and maybe some crownmolding. My current list is:
Trash can
Closet organizer
tripod mirror
workbench on wheels

If anyone has any plans for these item I would appreciate the help. Also any that live in the northern Virgina area that can tell me where to buy decent wood (not HD or Lowes) would also be helpful.

Hi rharveyva

You may want to check out the links below.

Steve Wall Lumber Co.
P.O. Box 287
Mayodan, NC 27027

http://www.walllumber.com/default.asp

Also you may want to check out the local hardwood floor companys in your town you can find some great deals on hardwood.(close out flooring)
All small boards ,at one time where big boards, with a bit of glue they become big again, but most of the time you will only need boards that are 3" wide for most cabinets, projects, etc. and they are very stable...most will be prefinished that's a real time saver..

the Woodcraft up in Springfield has a good selection of wood, not just exotics. (they also have a whole bunch of classes every month....) When I was up in Prince William, I used a cabinet shop out in Manassas, but they're now long gone. You may want to see if you can find one willing to sell lumber to you as well.

If you don't feel comfortable buying lumber on line, you might want to check out the guys listed below. There are a lot of sources up in western MD or eastern WV that might be worth the drive as well. Wall lumber is just across he border in NC, and there are a bunch of other wood suppliers there as well as in SW Virginia.

Landmark Logworks
Route 1, Box 36C
The Plains, VA 22171
