Hi. I'm Mike G., a new member to this forum. I've owned an old Craftsman router with handle switch for more than 30 years that I really like, although it's only 6-amp. I've been told that it was probably made by Porter-Cable for Sears. I also own a Dewalt DW616 router for heavier jobs. It's a nice unit, but switch location not nearly as nice as on the handle. Anyway, I'm looking for a decent laminate trimmer router at a decent price, or some guidance as to disirable models. I've been "surfing" and it seems that the PC 310 is highly revered and sought after. Why is it that companies discontinue a good product just for the sake of change? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Mike

If price is the key for you then I wold suggest the one from MLCS..

It comes in a kit with many attachments, it will take on 1/4' bits and 1/8" shank bits..NOTE **** the plunge base for the MLCS Not the norm for most trim routers ,it can be used in many ways like making signs,etc. I made a base for mind that can take on the Porter Cable brass guides that just adds to the versality of the MLCS unit....I used a standard Porter Cable base plate and just drilled holes to mount it to the router a quick and easy job..a 6.oo dollar plate from just about anyone that sells PC routers..( black plastic plate) ...

You can also get a low cost one from HF but it's a lower end trim router but will do the job if you don't run it all day long.

Mike, you will find that in comparison testing Bosch routers always come out at the top. The Bosch Colt is an excellent choice. If you are only doing a small amount of laminating such as a single kitchen then a HF model would fill the bill.

Hi Mike,

I own the MLCS Marvel laminate trimmer and find it OK for what I do with it (groove cutting, sign routing, etc.). It comes with a bunch of accessory add on parts ( no PC guide bushing plate however) and its own carrying case. The Bosch Colt has more power and comes with less accessory parts and no case. Look them over and choose what you feel is best for you.
