I've been around wood and wood working for my entire life, but I've not really done much myself. I grew up with my dad building everything from bookshelves to picture frames to you name it. If it could be made from wood and he wanted or needed it, he made it himself.

I've recently gotten into woodworking because I am a bass player and I've always wanted to design and build my own instrument. So for the past few years I've been reading and participating in luthier forums to gain knowledge.

Recently I started my first build. A five-string electric bass guitar - neck through - made from hard maple, padauk, quilted maple and andiroba.

So far, so good - which is why I am here. It became clear to me that I am going to love doing this and will probably be building instruments for the rest of my life now. Working with wood is like nothing I've ever done before and I absolutely love it! But I also have a healthy respect for the skill and care required to do it well - and safely!

I just purchased a router + router table and after assembling it all I realized that a router is not something that is as intuitive a tool as a scroll saw or drill press. There's clearly a lot more to it than 'plug and play', so I figured I'd play it safe and join a forum to help me learn more about it - so here I am!

I look forward to interacting with all you wood working folks and learning as much as I can! Thanks in advance for any tips and advice you all may have for me!
