| Registered User New Member | Hello guys and gals, My name is Elijah and im just getting into woodworking. Im 24 yrs old and pretty excited/obsesed with learning about making and building things from wood. I work in a job that is 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, so it leaves me time to do nothing, sooo I'm picking up wood working. Here is my story so far: I went to a pawn shop and purchased some tools to get me started. I got a skil saw, jig saw, sander, triangle square and a small vise/work table. Then i looked on the net and found plans for a REAL workshop table. In a day I constructed a 5x3 really nice table (my neighbors think so). One of my neighbors wanted some steps made, so i found out all the formulas and measurements online and made her a set of steps and scrapped her old rinky dink steps. My new project is that I want to build a wooden home address sign and I need a router for that. If that turns out good, then my neighbors also said they would pay me for one, so im all for it! So, I looked on the net and found you guys. I read this site for a couple days and like what goes on here a lot. So what I would like is some guidence in purchasing a router for the project and some helpful advice along the way. Being that I have absolutely no idea what im getting into, I hope you guys and gals can help me along. Looking forward to hearing some suggestions. Thanks! Elijah Fontenot |

| Registered User Jr. Member | Hi, Welcome. I just bought a trim router from Harbor Freight for $20.00 It has enough power to be able to freehand your name and address. It may take a little practice on some scrap. Redwood appears to be what commercial sign makers use. There is a specific router bit for making signs It is vee shaped. This router would also be able to round over edges. The guides are not too hot but they work. It will only take 1/4 inch shank bits, but it is an inexpensive way to get started. Try mlcswoodworking.com for router bits. Have fun. |

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | Elijah, I can't help you on choice of router as I'm in Australia but I can guarantee that several members will hop in to help you. I can however give you this link to my one and only routed sign which might give you ideas. http://www.routerforums.com/portable...hand-sign.html

| Registered User New Member | Harry, Your sign looks awsome! I'm looking into making a sign just like that. Where did you get a ski from? Do you have to get one that comes with a base? |
