Steve with the black dog is on a distinguished road

Hi

I'm not yet a router, but today was a big step on the way! I bought a second (or third) hand Swiss made Elu MOF 96 type 2 plunge router from e-bay. It was pretty cheap, and pretty old, but it will get me started.

My project in hand is building a new body for my electric guitar. I'm going to borrow a mate's 1/2" collet router and table to trim the edge and use my new 1/4" router to rout out the pick up, neck and tremolo cavities.

So I thought, I'd stop by this forum cause I can think of nowhere better to go to for advice!

Cheers.

Steve

Welcome to the forum Steve. Guess you'll have to stay clear of Mike with the white cat. Not sure we have too many people into instrument making on the forum but I'm sure you'll get all the advice you need if you describe what you're trying to achieve.

Welcome Steve, and you are right there is no better place to get advice or opinions on woodworking.

My son and I are about half way through building an electric guitar. We have the body done (cut and routed) and working on the neck. I have photos of the jigs we have had to make, up to this point. As well as the jigs we purchased. If I can help let me know.

Are you going to inlay as well?

You have a fine day and good luck on the build.
John

Right now I'm moving one small step at a time
I have a nice planed cherry body blank - I will be adding my existing Fender Musicmaster 24" scale neck, and a fender strat 2 point tremolo bridge. So my main effort will be to cut and rout the body so it it works!

If I do a good job (and a have not been divorced) I might try something more ambitious next time

We made our body out of mahogony and purchased the jig for this paticular model.

A few tricky spots especally with the two depths in the pick-channel. It was our first go, the son plays guitar and drums.

Interested in a set of electronic drums, we built. Maybe your next project.

Enjoy the build we are.

You are a dark horse John, hiding your skills from us for so long, the guitar is looking very professional.

Nice SG, John. Will you go for a set neck or a bolt on?
