| Registered User New Member | I found this forum while Googling for information on spiral pattern bits. I have started using my router table more frequently now that I am making projects from Baltic Birch plywood. Rough cutting them with a jig saw, and finishing with a pattern bit. I am having a lot of success doing this but I find that the straight bit cutters will leave burn marks in the wood. I guess that that is not much of an introduction. I have been woodworking for 30 years, live on the East Coast of Canada - and am obsessed with making astronomy equipment. Hope to get some good information from you folks ! |

| Registered User Forum King | Welcome to the forums Astrowood I have found the Baltic birch plywood or most plywoods, dulls your bit quite quickly, and causes burning. There are some other members that may be able to help with solutions or other causes of burning. Glad you joined us. John

| Registered User Supreme Forum King | Welcome, Astrowood! I agree with John about the glue in plywood dulling bits quickly, so that would be the first thing I would check out. Secondly the speed of the cutter and feed rate will also come into the equation.

| Forum Contributer Supreme Forum King | Hi Astrowood Many things come into burning the plywood with router bits, feed rate, bit speed and sharp router bits...... You need all 3 working at the same time to keep the burn marks off the stock...it comes with time and trial and error most of the time... ![]() The real key is don't stay in one spot to long...any bit that spins at high speed will put in burn marks... ![]() ========== Quote:
