New to Forum - Hello I just want to say Hi and introduce myself. My name is Marty and I have been woodworking for over 30 years. I have really equipped my shop and gotten serious in the last 13 years. I don't usually like to talk in forums, but I feel I have some advise to share relative to router lifts, based on my experiences. About 12 years ago I purchased a Jet cabinet saw with a Bosch router and Jessem lift included in a package deal (side extension table mounted). This set-up was perfect for my shop. The saw and fence have been great. The Bosch router works fine. The lift is a rip-off. In fact, I will not purchase any Jessem products again. The aluminum plate is too thin and doesn't have enough reinforcement on the underside, so after about three years the plate crowned. It will no set flat in the table recess. When I contacted Jessem they explained that this particular lift was licensed to Jet (their name only). Jet apparently obtained a cheaper supplier who in turn, cheaped up the lift to save cost. Thinning the plate was one thing they did. At first, I was upset with Jet, but after thinking about it, you can;t blame any co. for trying to save cost, especially if they don't think quality will suffer. Jessem gave me the attitude that it was "tough luck". They weren't going to do a thing because the lifts they sell are thicker and higher quality. So, the bottom line is, Jessem new that the supplier Jet got to make this lift was going to let the quality suffer. In other words, they sold out! The lady I talked to talked about their high quality control, etc.. and how good their products are. I told her they sold their name and reputation with it. Why would a company who wants their high quality advertised sellout????? |
