That's an excellent way to strengthen the corners Derek, and one I have used many times on frames and boxes. By shear coincidence, I have just posted a photo shoot of a frame with the corners strengthened a different way.

The best advice that I can give a newcomer to routing is, learn to use the router mounted, this can be as simple as a board held in a vice, with the router firmly attached and a simple fence held with clamps, and when he/she feels competant and confident in it's use and is familiar with all aspects of safety, THEN, and only then proceed to learn how to use the router hand held. This is MY opinion, and may or may not coincide with that of the forum management, but is based on a lifetime of woodworking.

Hi Jane, welcome to the Forum. Could you fill in you profile to let us know where you live? That will aid in answering your request about picture frames.

What type, size, and quantity of frames are you looking for? I do know of someone that is building custom frames. If this is relative to a commercial enterprise, perhaps, communicating through Private Messaging would be more appropriate. Send me a PM about your interests.

Derek, thanks for the spline technique. I had almost forgotten about the quality of a splined joint.
