Jigs and Fixtures This area will be directed towards the art of designing specific jigs and fixtures. Bob and Rick say, "if the specific operation is to make more than one piece the same size and shape then chances are you need a jig and/or fixtures."

A while back I posted about mortising. I made a precision template platform that clamps to the edge, but ended up with mortises that were not centered after all!

To compensate, I'm making the tenons to match. I'm using the end-mill sled from Infinity, which I'll write a detailed review of later. It is easy, but tedious, to put the mortised pieces in the same sled and hold it up to the blade to get the height just right, for every cut.

The only remaining issue is getting the square pegs in the round holes. A sharp chisel makes quick work of that, on the straight-grained bubinga wood. I can get about 12 corners (3 tenons) without using a hammer before having to hone the chisel again.

The M&T is overkill for this project, but it is good practice to learn so I'll be confidant when I do need it and done well.

A few photos. will make everything crystal clear, and who knows, various other ideas may be tossed into the pot.
