Smile Coned wheels

Where can I purchase the coned type wheels as used on the Gemini duplicator? If I were to make them,is it necessary to contour to the curvature of the round rail,or cut a v?? If a v,what degree-30,45 or 60*.? Lastly, would baltic birch ply make a suitable material,or do I need plastic or aluminum? Thanks,pw.
