Default router out of a vacum cleaner motor?

I know this sounds crazy. And i am new to the site. I saw this on the internet, someone makeing a router out of an old vacuum cleaner motor. Don't know the details becuause you have to order the plans to build it. I do have an old vacuum cleaner motor and i was looking at it . It has a 9/32" shaft about 1 1/2" long. just wondering here if it is possible. would you be able to use a shaft coupler , or a double sided collet? I don't know maybe to good to be true/ any input or feed back would be great. ty.

Whoa, never heard of that! I don't think I would go that route. Building a router out of a vacuum cleaner motor? Sounds kind of dangerous. But then again, I haven't seen anything like that. Hmmm... something that needs to be seen and make sound judgements on it.

In a few words no...... the bearings are not anywhere near strong enough and most shaft sizes will be way undersized. Could you do it for a science project sure.... to use in a shop save your money and get a real router.

Having said that would you be interested in the kit I sell that converts a router in to a vacuum cleaner for only $1000 bucks! No I'm just kidding......

I would be interested in seeing what this thing would look like, do they have any free pictures?

no no free pictures , but the plan cost $10.00. i'll post the site . http://www.metalwebnews.com/poorman/wood.html . Just scrol down until you see "make your router". I don't know if i want to spend the $10.00, but it would be fun to look at!

not to rain on your parade..

but..

$$$$

10.00 for "plans"
cost of the "vacumme cleaner motor
cost of "coupler?"
COST OF YOUR TIME?

the results?

PRICELESS!

do I think it will work? not very well..
heck my vac barely picks up the dirt on the shop floor.. I doubt it would do a good job spinning a router bit!
