Default Please help me o benign computer gods ..

Hopefully someone has the computer sense that I don't and can help me as it is almost time to defenestrate this thing and start again (my favourite word that one!!) I have tried my ISP over here and they are unalbe to help as it is not directly related to their service.
Ever since I got the Service Pack 2 Update I have been unable to use my printer (Canon MPC190 3-in-1 job). Whenever I go to print a message appears "Unable to communicate with device. Please start "MPService" from the services applet in the Control Panel. Then please right-click the StatusMonitor to reconnect and try again". Once this message is dismissed the box standard "turn on the printer" one comes up as well. I have managed to find services.msc in start->run, found the MPServices and it is started. Just to make sure I stopped and restarted it. I have also completely uninstalled and re-installed the printer. However, the only step I have not done is right click the StatusMonitor to restart as I don't know what that is. Can anyone help? I realise this is a woodworking forum but we are all friends here and this is the Off Topic bit!!

Thanks everyone,
Aaron

The status monitor should be that little picture of a printer on the bottom right side of your screen, on the tool bar. By the way I use Linux at home and just don't have these problems.

Hey Spacemanspiff,

Go here:
http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/canon-xpsp2.html

Download and install the patch, you should be up and running again.

Excellent thanks FordPrefect. I have also temporarily uninstalled the update and that has worked as well. I have Nortons Firewall and Anti-virus so I am quite happy!!
