Lobby The place to chat about whatever suits your fancy. This could be the electric dog polisher you just bought, the weather, anything goes (within the limits of good taste).

Default Woodworking principles

Essential principles of woodworking

1. How bad you need a tool is inversely proportionate to the certainty of your knowledge of its whereabouts.

2. There are only 2: 2 sizes of screw - too long, too short. 2 grades of sandpaper - too coarse, too fine. 2 colors of stain - too dark, too light. etc.

3. Glue holds best where you don't want it to.

4. Workbenches are covered in quicksand. If you put one tool down on it in order to free your hands to use another tool, the first tool will immediately sink out of sight.

5. The power tool you need is the one covered with project pieces, tools, and scrap from the last procedure you did.

6. Wood only warps and twists when you don't have a planer and jointer.

7. If you buy corded tools, because cordless tool batteries run out of power too fast, there will be a major power failure the first time you use these tools.

8. If you buy cordless tools so you don't have to drag extension chords, everywhere, you will never work more than six feet from an outlet.

9. The only size of drill bit, screw, nail, or whatever that the home center is out of is the one you need.

10. Woodworkers are the best people in the world, especially if they are into routers.

Merry Christmas.
