No reason to apologize Bob. You did fine and it was grand of you too run the contest! I enjoyed seeing all of the projects... and they were all great.

First of all, Bob, I did not mean to take away anything from the generous contribution you volunteered to the forum and the winners - at all, it was a very nice and generous thing you did and I'm sure very appreciated by many, myself included. You did not cause me any inconvenience at all, please don't think that. It appears you did all you could to make things easier.

Second, some quotes:

Joe: "I would like to know...

W H Y can't we V O T E ??!!

Does anyone have the answer?

I just do not understand it...

Thank you in advance for letting me know W H Y."

Harry: "Not only that, but only a very few of the large membership actively join in, why is it so?"

I was simply letting the people that wanted to know the reasons I did not vote. It was not
"Some people will just bitch all the time, I would do this or I would do it this way or I can vote because it takes too long or I can make heads or tails out of it"
So I apologize, I thought I was helping. I had absolutely no vested interest and just wanted the people with a lot more experience with this forum to perhaps understand why new members such as myself do not vote. So if that's what it came across as - I'm sorry, it was not my intention.

Thank you for the contest, Bob.

I apoligize for any inconveniences I caused and lack of knowledge in linking individual posts to a poll. I did the best I could with what I had to work with.
Bob,

I too was NOT implying in any way that you were to blame for the low Vote turnout.

Looks like we're zeroing-in on a new way of entering a Voting Poll.

It's a shame that all of your requests were ignored.

The requests were not ignored Joe. People get upset when their postings are deleted, this is why the thread was not cleaned up. At present I do not know how to go about posting photos in more than one place on the forums and have asked Mark for assistance with this.

You can post photos wherever you wish.......... what is the confusion.

Just use the "" tags, OR attach them to your message??

OK, let's Clear Memory, used to be Clear Core in the ole days, and start over.

What appears to me, right now, that what we need to fix this problem for Future contests, is a good set of Guidelines, Examples, and a set of Tutorial postings so that New Contests can be setup, conducted, and controlled in such a way that ANYONE clicking on the actual Voting Poll post can, directly from the POLL Posting, review the Entries to see What is being voted upon, and then make an intelligent Vote right there... without having to search for other threads and getting confused.

Perhaps New Closed Threads should be created for each contest entry, by the person in charge of the contest or a selected person, that contains pictures and text as required to show the subject for voting purposes. Short and simple. Possibly with links to original thread(s) as desired.(???)

Maybe All pictures posted by the entrants must be in their Galleries so that Links to them can easily be used to display them in the New Thread?

If it's a contest of Projects, ONLY pictures of the finished products are needed for the New Thread(s)... to make each thread as short, simple, brief, and easily looked at in one screen?

Perhaps every Voting Poll should have votable items like:
10.
Sorry, I don't like to vote for anything.
11. I am not motivated to vote for ANY of the items.
???
This would, at least, give them an out and let it be known that the Poll was looked at.

If help is desired by the person in charge of the contest, perhaps a Moderator or other knowledgable person could be called upon to help?

=====================================
Now...
Do we agree on what I just said? If so, let's get it happening.

Do we agree with any of what I just said? If not, let's discuss the issues and solve the problems.
=====================================

When we're through developing the help, we can have a poll on whether or not it's liked or not!

This only MY opinion on the subject... trying to help make it better.

This is displayed or should be displayed in the poll thread.

Not all users have a Gallery, nor should they require one. If you start adding on tons of requirements for these "fun" contests, then it'll turn more into a job than just casual fun.

I agree, in the final thread (voting stage) there should be the final visual of each participatiants project. But, in the actual contest thread, there should be the development of each project for other users to learn and read about.

No. There is a "Null Vote View Results" button, once clicked the users vote is nulled. If they still don't understand that, then they can simply not vote at all. Definate no on this one.

Thats fine. Bob_N apparently didn't require assistance his contest went great, in my opinion. But of course if anyone requires any assistance on RouterForums.com regardless the topic, they should be contacting a Senior Moderator or an Administrator.

--------------------

Joe I understand your intentions of trying to improve the system, but I don't feel it is necessary. Currently it's as simple as a voting system can get. I personally don't have time currently to sit down and write guidelines and tutorials on how to properly compose a contest / voting thread, if you wish to do this, go for it.
