Hi Harry

"Am I right in thinking that you find side by side better than one in front of the other like B&R do it?"

Well it works both ways... in the picture you will see them side by side, that's to show you don't need to make the slide block that fits over the jig guide,,,, once you slot one part , you have it done and can use it to set up for the other parts/sides of the box..
It's not a big deal but it makes the job a bit quicker and easyer...and just less ware on the bit....

If I'm making a box with 3/8" / 1/2" thick parts I will pair them up but if I'm using 3/4" or plus stock I do one at a time....1 1/2" long pass will heat the bit up a little to much, like in Oak,Walnut,Cherry, etc. softwoods I will pair them up..sometimes..... but you know pine and the gum in it...likes to choke up the bit with tar/pitch ...

I know I push make it simple alot, but in this case one needs to put it to one side.....wood is not cheap anymore, and it the parts moves to one side you just made some firewood because the parts will not fit right and clean, the push block takes the error out of it, plus it wil let you keep your fingers just in case the bit jams a little bit, like they can do from time to time.
If one runs into a bad part in the stock he/she can just pull it back, that's hard to do if you are using a standard push block...most will just lift the part up and try it one more time but now the slot will off ,and you just made some more firewood... not to talk about the time it takes to go back and make one more part just the same as the others...and now the wood grain is not what you wanted it to be...

Now it's time for bed Harry, good night

Bj

It's likely to be a few days now as I'm going to have to attempt to make a "deluxe" push block. I can't risk showing myself up by using my usual piece of 4" x 2"!
I hope you had a good nights sleep and are ready to face another busy day at the help desk.

Joe, the way I marked the holes was simple, I put the jig in position with the spacer bar between it and the cutter and when it looked square to the table, with a sharp pencil drew circles through the mounting holes. I then centre popped the marks and drilled 1/4"
holes which whilst accurate gave no movement so, bearing in mind that 1/4" = 6.35mm, I sent a 6.5mm drill through which gave just the right amount of adjustment. The first cut will be after I make a pusher block which hopefully will bear some resemblance to Bj's
